THREE YEARS AGOâ¦
âExcuse me?â says a beautiful girl while walking towards me. She is the one who barged into our conferences room this morning. Apparently she was looking for the Media Event happening next to our hall. The hotel sure made the company name banners tiny enough to not be noticeable. Plus everything looks the same in these upscale hotels.
Look at her smile. Oh how I feel like a teenager when she is around. I hope she isnât coming to punch me for looking at her at the cafe. I just couldnât help myself. She looked so captivating while working on her chunky outdated laptop with a pair of reading glasses hanging onto the bridge of her nose. Her innocent little stress frown was so captivating.
âHello! I was wondering if we could talk.â she said while tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear. âSee, I promised myself Iâd come talk to you if I can catch up before you step into your car. I know it sounds strange but who likes normal anyways?â Her confidence reminds me of myself from when I started my company. I used to grab investors for a meeting in elevators, valet parking and even in the restrooms if I had to.
Maybe she wants to talk about getting a job.
Donât get too ahead of yourself.
No beautiful young girl will be interested in you.
Be thankful your wife hasnât left you like your thinning hair.
âHello!â I said with the utmost professionalism possible âHow may I help you?â.
âI was wondering if you would be interested for a cup or coffee somedayâ she said. My heart is pounding harder as she completes her statement.
What is happening right now?
Is this a trap, or a prank, am I on some TV Show?
âMay I know what this is about?â I say with a serious tone. At this point, I sure canât afford a pricey divorce, or even a scandal. Our company is barely afloat. The new investors may be spooked by even the smallest tabloid rumour.
âNothing as such, just thought you may be interesting to talk to. Iâm sorry, I shouldnât have bothered you.â she says and starts walking away.
I walk briskly and catch up. Ever since high school, all my girlfriends thought I walked too fast for them to outrun me in a fight. This reminds me of those days.
This girl is something. She brings out things in me that I long thought were lost in time.
âIâm sorry I didnât mean to be rude.â I say apologetically, hoping my genuine feeling came across in my words. âI was just caught off guard and I thought maybe my friends planned a prank on me. One can only imagine a beautiful woman like you asking him out for coffee.â As I open up to her, she seems to be getting her sparkling smile back. Oh how I envy that Lipstick on her lips. I wish I could trade places with it.
My Phone Rings. Itâs my WIFE.
What is happening to me today? I think I have lost my mind.
